About Jehangir Art Gallery
Jehangir Art Gallery at Kala Ghoda is Mumbai's best-known public art gallery. It was founded by Sir Cowasji Jehangir at the urging of the artist K. K. Hebbar and the physicist Homi Bhabha, and was inaugurated on 21 January 1952 in memory of Sir Cowasji's son Jehangir. The modernist concrete building stands behind the CSMVS museum and has four exhibition halls, so several shows usually run at once and the line-up changes frequently. Entry is free. Artists also display work on the pavement outside, and the gallery is at the centre of the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival each winter. It was for decades home to the artists' cafรฉ Samovar.
