About Nehru Centre
The Nehru Centre in Worli was conceived in 1972 as a living memorial to Jawaharlal Nehru and completed in 1985 on a six-acre site, to a design by the architect I. M. Kadri; its cylindrical latticed tower is a city landmark. The complex houses a 1,000-seat auditorium, the Nehru Planetarium, commissioned in 1977, an art gallery that shows young and established artists, a library and the Discovery of India exhibition, whose 14 galleries trace Indian history and thought. The auditorium hosts plays, music and dance programmes, stand-up shows and school events, and the planetarium runs sky shows and astronomy activities for students. The centre's culture wing organises regular programmes across the performing arts.
