About Prithvi Theatre
Prithvi Theatre is a 200-seat playhouse in Juhu and one of the best-known addresses in Indian theatre. It was built by the actor Shashi Kapoor and his wife Jennifer Kapoor in memory of his father, Prithviraj Kapoor, whose travelling company Prithvi Theatres toured India from 1944, and it opened on 5 November 1978. The architect Ved Segan designed the auditorium around a thrust stage with the audience on three sides, so no seat is far from the actors. A non-profit, it programmes plays in Hindi, English and other languages, along with children's theatre, music and poetry. Its annual Prithvi Theatre Festival is held each November, and the Prithvi Memorial Concert takes place every 28 February. The theatre is closed on Mondays.
