Diwali 2026 in Mumbai: Events, Markets & Festive Lights
28 events matching right now across Mumbai — mostly music (9), nightlife (7), festival (6), workshop (3). 5 are free.
Diwali 2026 falls on Sunday 8 November, when Lakshmi Pujan is performed. In Mumbai the pre-dawn Narak Chaturdashi bath, the abhyanga snan, falls on the same morning, according to Drik Panchang's Mumbai calendar. Vasu Baras is on Thursday 5 November and Dhanteras on Friday 6 November; Bali Pratipada, or Diwali Padwa, is listed for Monday 9 November, though some calendars show the 10th, and Bhau Beej is on Wednesday 11 November. The city's Diwali mixes Marathi and Gujarati traditions: Diwali Pahat concerts at dawn in Dadar, Girgaon, Vile Parle and Thane; kandeel lanterns and home-made faral; the lights at Shivaji Park; and late-night shopping at Dadar, Crawford Market, Bhuleshwar and Zaveri Bazaar. Malls from Lower Parel to Thane put up installations, and hotels and clubs hold Diwali parties and card nights on the weekends before. On crackers, a Mumbai Police order in force from 6 October to 4 December 2026 bans bursting them on public roads and streets, following Bombay High Court directions, and in earlier years the court limited bursting to night-time hours. Check the current rules before you buy any. This page lists Diwali melas, markets, concerts, parties and workshops across Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai.

- Shop the big markets on weekday mornings; evenings in the last week before Diwali are packed, and parking near Dadar and Crawford Market is close to impossible.
- Diwali falls on a Sunday, so suburban trains run to the Sunday timetable with fewer services. Check times before you travel.
- Do not burst crackers on roads or footpaths: the police order in force until 4 December 2026 prohibits it, and it bans laser lights and beams as well.
- Diwali Pahat concerts start around dawn and many are free. Arrive early for a seat, and expect road closures around the venue.
- Book Diwali parties and festive dinners early for the weekends of 31 October–1 November and 6–7 November.
