Racecourse & festival ground
Mahalaxmi Racecourse is an oval horse-racing track on about 225 acres of open land in the middle of Mumbai, built in 1883 and run by the Royal Western India Turf Club; its grandstand is a designated heritage structure. The racing season runs from mid-November to the last week of April, with the Indian Derby on the first Sunday of February. Outside race days the grounds are the city's largest outdoor event space. Loll
Big events use specific gates and close some approach roads; follow the organiser's entry map rather than heading to the main grandstand gate. Mahalaxmi station, on both the Western Line and the Aqua Line, is the simplest way in and out. Cabs are slow to reach after a festival ends. The ground is open and unshaded: carry a cap and sunscreen for daytime festivals and expect dust or mud underfoot.
Details come from the organiser's listing on Timeout, last checked on 2026-11-02, and can change. Confirm on the ticket page before you go.
