Ganesh Chaturthi 2027 in Mumbai: Pandals & Visarjan

Ganesh Chaturthi 2027 falls on Saturday 4 September, and the ten-day festival ends with Anant Chaturdashi on Tuesday 14 September, according to Drik Panchang. Ganeshotsav is Mumbai's biggest public festival: thousands of sarvajanik mandals install idols in neighbourhood pandals, and families bring Ganpati home for one and a half, five, seven or ten days. The best-known pandals are in the old mill district. Lalbaugcha Raja, installed every year since 1934, draws queues that can last many hours, especially for the Navsachi line, in which devotees go up to the idol's feet, and Ganesh Galli's Mumbaicha Raja is a few minutes' walk away. The GSB Seva Mandal at King's Circle, Andhericha Raja and the mandals of Girgaon's Khetwadi lanes are other major stops. On immersion days, above all Anant Chaturdashi, processions move to Girgaon Chowpatty, Juhu, Dadar and Powai lake, and to artificial ponds set up by the BMC. Roads close along the routes, and the railways have run extra overnight services in past years. This page lists Ganeshotsav events, pandal-hopping walks, eco-friendly idol workshops and cultural programmes across Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai.

Good to know
- For Lalbaugcha Raja, the Mukh Darshan line is much shorter than the Navsachi line. Go late at night or early on a weekday morning.
- Use the trains: Chinchpokli, Currey Road and Lower Parel stations are all within walking distance of Lalbaug.
- Carry little, keep phones and wallets in front pockets, and agree on a meeting point; the Lalbaug lanes are extremely crowded.
- On Anant Chaturdashi many roads in South and Central Mumbai are closed from the afternoon. Check the traffic police advisory before you travel.
- Choose a clay idol and immerse it in an artificial pond where you can; the BMC publishes the list of ponds each year.
