About Shivaji Park
Shivaji Park, officially Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Park, is the largest park in the island city: about 28 acres of open ground in Dadar West. It is known as a cradle of Indian cricket, with nets and pitches where generations of Mumbai players trained, and it also has tennis courts, a mallakhamb area and a football pitch. The ground has hosted political and social gatherings since before independence and is still used for large rallies, parades and public functions. Around Diwali the park and its surrounding roads are lit up, drawing evening crowds, and in early December lakhs of visitors pass through on their way to Chaityabhoomi nearby for Mahaparinirvan Din on 6 December.
