Weekend tips

  • Stay in one zone. South Mumbai, Bandra–Khar, Juhu–Andheri and the eastern suburbs are each a full day. Crossing between them at 7 pm can take an hour or more by road.
  • Use the trains and the metro. The Western, Central and Harbour lines are less crowded at weekends, and the Aqua Line (Metro Line 3) now runs from Aarey through BKC, Worli and Mahalaxmi to Cuffe Parade.
  • Autos stop at Bandra. Auto-rickshaws do not operate in the island city south of Bandra and Sion; there you need a taxi, bus or the metro.
  • Mondays catch out long-weekend plans. Prithvi Theatre and the Elephanta Caves are closed, and several museums keep a weekly day off.
  • Book ahead for Prithvi and NCPA shows, popular comedy line-ups, MuSo and KidZania.
  • In the monsoon (June to September), keep an indoor back-up and check train running status on heavy-rain days.
