Updated 2026-10-12 Β· 6 min read Β· by the mumbai2go team

For a gig on almost any night, start with antiSOCIAL in Lower Parel. For classical music and jazz, it is the NCPA at Nariman Point. For stand-up, head to the small rooms of Khar and Bandra, or to St. Andrew’s Auditorium and the NSCI Dome for the big names. The biggest tours play DY Patil Stadium in Nerul or the Mahalaxmi Racecourse. Everything coming up is in our concerts in Mumbai and comedy listings; this guide explains which room is which.

Stadiums and festival grounds

DY Patil Stadium, Nerul

DY Patil Stadium is the region’s largest concert venue: a 45,300-seat cricket ground in Navi Mumbai, inaugurated in 2008. Justin Bieber played here in 2017 and U2 in 2019, and Coldplay did three nights in January 2025. It is a long way from most of Mumbai, about an hour from CSMT on the Harbour Line to Nerul and then 1.5 km to the gates, so plan the return before you plan anything else. Special trains have been laid on for the biggest shows in the past.

Mahalaxmi Racecourse

The racecourse is about 225 acres of open ground in the middle of the city, right beside Mahalaxmi station on the Western Line and the Aqua Line. It has been the home of Lollapalooza India since 2023; the fifth edition is on 23–24 January 2027, headlined by Olivia Dean, Limp Bizkit, KATSEYE and Fontaines D.C. As of mid-October 2026, ticketing sites also list Anyma on 21 November, Sunburn Festival on 18–19 December and Foo Fighters on 31 January 2027 at the racecourse. Confirm on the official ticket page before you book travel.

BKC: Jio World Garden and the MMRDA Grounds

Jio World Garden is the open-air lawn of the Jio World Centre, and the MMRDA Grounds nearby are bare plots that organisers build out for each event. BeyoncΓ©, Guns N’ Roses, Iron Maiden and Roger Waters have all played the MMRDA Grounds, and the Global Citizen Festival was held there in November 2016. Gorillaz are listed at Jio World Garden for 27 January 2027. The Aqua Line’s BKC station has made both far easier to reach than they used to be.

Concert halls and theatres

NCPA, Nariman Point

The National Centre for the Performing Arts has five theatres, from the 114-seat Little Theatre to the 1,109-seat Jamshed Bhabha Theatre, and the Tata Theatre in between is known for its acoustics. It is the home of the Symphony Orchestra of India and the city’s main stage for Hindustani and Western classical music. Its jazz programming is the most consistent in the city: the NCPA International Jazz Festival runs on 20–22 November 2026, and the Jeff “Tain” Watts Quartet plays on 16 December. Members get lower prices and priority booking.

NMACC, BKC

The Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre opened in 2023. Its Grand Theatre seats 2,000 on three levels and was built for touring musicals, but it also takes concerts: Max Richter plays on 24 October 2026, with tickets listed from β‚Ή2,750, and Gippy Grewal on 31 October, from β‚Ή1,250. The smaller Studio Theatre (250 seats) and The Cube (125) host chamber-scale music and comedy.

Sri Shanmukhananda Hall, Sion

Shanmukhananda Hall is one of the city’s largest auditoriums and its leading stage for Carnatic music, run by a sabha rooted in the South Indian community of Matunga and Sion. It is also hired for film-music nights, orchestras and big stand-up shows. King’s Circle station on the Harbour Line is a short walk away.

Royal Opera House, Girgaon

The restored Royal Opera House seats 575 over three levels. It is the prettiest room in the city for a recital or a musical, and it is a ten-minute walk from Charni Road station.

Small rooms for independent music

antiSOCIAL, Lower Parel

antiSOCIAL, in the Mathuradas Mill Compound, is the busiest small venue for alternative music: indie bands, hip-hop, techno and house line-ups and vinyl DJ sets, with comedy and a weekly Tuesday theatre series added in 2026. Recent prices give a sense of the range. A club-music gig in October 2026 cost β‚Ή699, and a touring DJ set started at β‚Ή1,499. Most nights are standing-room.

G5A Warehouse, Mahalaxmi

G5A is a not-for-profit arts space with a black-box room in the old Laxmi Mills estate. Its music programming leans experimental and cross-disciplinary, with audiovisual performances, new compositions and conversations with artists, in front of a small seated audience.

Mehboob Studios, Bandra

The 1954 film studio becomes a festival site several times a year. The Mahindra Blues Festival was last held here on 14–15 February 2026, and IFP brings its sixteenth season on 24–25 October 2026. Dates for the 2027 blues festival had not been announced when we checked.

Comedy: where to laugh

Mumbai’s stand-up scene lives in rooms of 40 to 100 seats in the western suburbs, with bigger shows in auditoriums.

  • Khar Comedy Club is a 40-seat room founded by the comedian Sumit Sourav. Its October 2026 listings show 10 pm shows from β‚Ή499, for ages 18 and over, with gates closing 20 minutes after the start. Venue guide.
  • J Spot moved from Bandra to a 100-seat room in Juhu in September 2023. Check current listings for its schedule.
  • antiSOCIAL slots comedy nights between its gigs.
  • St. Andrew’s Auditorium in Bandra is the standard hall for touring specials and recordings, and the NCPA, Shanmukhananda Hall and the NSCI Dome take the biggest names.

A note on The Habitat. For years The Habitat, inside Hotel Unicontinental in Khar West, was the city’s best-known comedy and open-mic room. In March 2025 it was vandalised after a show by Kunal Kamra and announced a temporary shutdown. We could not confirm from its listings that it had reopened when this guide was written, so check its official channels before planning around it.

If you want to perform rather than watch, our open mic page lists this week’s sign-ups.

Practical tips

  • Buy from the official ticketing partner. For sold-out tours, resale tickets on social media are the most common scam.
  • Carry a photo ID. Maharashtra’s legal drinking age is 25 for spirits and 21 for beer and wine, and club nights check at the door.
  • Plan the last leg. No station is at the door of the NCPA, NMACC, the NSCI Dome or Prithvi; budget for a taxi or auto, and remember that autos do not run in the island city south of Bandra.
  • Check the last train. The suburban lines run late, but the metro lines stop earlier in the evening. After stadium shows at Nerul, trains are packed.
  • Be on time for comedy. Small rooms shut their doors soon after the start, and phones stay in your pocket.
  • Weeknights are better value. Trial shows and weekday gigs are cheaper and easier to get into than Saturday nights.

For a full evening, pair a show with dinner nearby: our date night page has this week’s picks, and Lower Parel and Bandra West have the most choice within walking distance of a venue.
